Sri Lanka Appeal and Fundraiser Lunch

This is event is now SOLD OUT but you can still donate via the "donate button". Thank you for your support! On 21 April 2019, Easter Sunday, three churches in Sri Lanka and three luxury hotels in the commercial capital Colombo were targeted in a series of coordinated terrorist suicide bombings. Over 250 people were killed and 500 were injured. Our fundraiser will be in support of those who need ongoing help after the attacks. We hope tp support children and other family members of victims who need not only financial support due to loss of breadwinners and parents but help dealing with the psychological injuries and mental health follow-up required on a ongoing basis. We will be having an buffet style lunch with Syrian cuisine at the Four Brave Women restaurant at the Trading Circle in Summer Hill to raise funds for this important cause. Date: Sunday 23rd June Time: 12:30pm - 3pm Venue: 26 Lackey st, Summer Hilll All proceeds will be donated to The Shanthi Foundation (www.shanthi-foundation.org), which is an Australia based medical charity involved in capacity building in palliative care. Their major project is raising funds to build an eco friendly pallative care hospital in sri lanka and the foundation has trained over 800 doctors, 600 nurses and 50 allied health staff in Sri Lanka and India. The funds raised through our Sri Lanka Appeal will be used by the Shanthi Foundation to provide counselling and mental health follow-up to the patients and families affected by the Easter bombings. We will also use the funds to set up a financial sponsorship program to help children who have lost parents in the attacks or families who have lost their breadwinner to help with food, clothing, transport, education of children and purchase of medication and equipment. The Shanthi Foundation was founded by Dr Suharsha Kanathigoda who is the Director of Palliative Care in the ACT & a Senior Staff Specialist in Palliative Medicine at Calvary Health Care & Clare Holland House. He is the clinical lead for Clare Holland House, the Renal Supportive Care Service, the Motor Neuron Disease Service & the Aboriginal Palliative Care Service in the ACT. He is also a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the ANU.
